Apartments on King: Number 9

tweet link

King Street is home to the first residential 3 (or more) storey building to be built since the beginning of the revitalisation project. (That I'm aware of!) This building's located at 9 King Street, on the corner of King and Market Streets, holds 13 apartments and sits next door to two other proposals.

It was built back in 2005/06, which is slightly prior to the official start of the revitalisation program (2007), but well after the actual start (2003). If I recall correctly, the next project that went ahead was 61-63 Clow Street (4 storey, 24 apartments) in 2008.

Some of the apartment internals can be viewed on real estate listings like this one. I'm not sure I'd agree with the choice of finishes (even back in 2005), but the layout seems good based on the images.

As for the building itself, it's an affable, albeit subtle, looking building. The side facing King Street is too plain — why are there not more balconies on this side, given a view that can't be obstructed? Also, the ground level garage is too prominent on this side. However the landscaping, while simple, does help make this side look more inviting:

The side facing Market Street works quite well, with a mix of greenery, windows and features:

Overall, a positive addition.
